The Good Drink

As many of us seem to be memebers of the jet set I'm suggesting this thread for stitching together a Drinkers Guide to the World at Large so folks on the go will know where it's worth dropping a couple dozen bucks, pounds, yen or, euros when drinking out in a strange town.

Exxxx-ce-lllennnnt idea!

I am of to Boston later this month. What I had planned to do was ask around Tiki Central for help info on getting to Kowloon from downtown Boston, we will not have a motorcar.

Anyone has that info, great. Otherwise, any input on Boston as a whole? Where to go in good old Boston?

Ah, Boston. We went there in search of Tiki, but came back with just
an almighty hangover for our troubles.

The Kowloon is unfortunately a long way out of Boston, and as we
only had a short time there, it proved too costly in terms of both time &
money to get a cab out there. We didn't have much luck in the centre of town
either, as the Kon-Tiki was nowhere to be seen, and the locals in Harvard Suare
directed us to a place that was straight out of 'Good Will Hunting' when we
asked about the local Tiki bars. It turns out that the Aku Aku was just a mile or
so away, and still had a couple of months left before it shut it's doors forever.
So, as far as getting a Bostonian Tiki fix goes, the best way is to rent a car
and head north out of town, if at all possible.

The bar we enjoyed the most isn't really the kind of place we'd normally go for.
Unfortunately, the name of the place was washed out of my brain by the martinis
they served there, but it's located near Fanuiel (sp?) Hall, at the ground level of a
posh hotel. The large windows give you a great view of the market, as well as the
horse & carriage rides that start nearby, and your evening is occasionally enlivened
by Bruins fans walking past & flipping the bar occupants the bird.
The martinis are vastly expensive, but they give you another glass' worth in a little
carafe surrounded by ice. It's the kind of place where the men all smoke cigars, and
occasionally someone will saunter over to the piano and show off in front of their
date. We found it very amusing and couldn't help taking the piss out of one
particularly uptight piano player.

So on the plus side, you have well made & very large martinis, comfortable leather
couches, and a great window to peer at old Boston through (I bet it's particularly nice
in there when it's snowing). On the minus side, it's expensive, pretentious, and you get
the feeling Ted Kennedy might arrive at any moment.

Fine w/ me as long as someone else is doing the driving!

A Chappaquiddick martini:

Rinse the inside of a cocktail shaker with cranberry juice
Pour three ounces of cold vodka into the shaker.
Add ice, shake vigorously, and serve.
Drink.
Repeat x4
Drive off a bridge
Run away
Appear the next day denying all knowlege of above.

Made the Sundowner from "Intoxica" for the first time last night. It's from the Kon Tiki chain and it packs a wollop! This is one of those drinks where the end result tastes much better than it sounds.

1 1/4 ounces cognac
3/4 ounce Galliano
3/4 ounce Cointreau
1/2 ounce lemon juice
Shake with 1 cup crushed ice and pour in large bucket glass or tiki mug. Add crushed ice to fill.

We sipped it slowly while listening to the record "Cruising Along the Wailua River".

Totally agree, Jabbo! Tried it a few weeks ago and really liked it.

(looks good with a glowing ice cube as well, but almost everything does.)

I made up this drink at a drunken tikified party at my house:

I call it "The kreeper"

1oz 151 rum
1oz light rum
1oz spice rum
3/4 oz grenadine
4oz pinapple juice

Shake with ice and strain into a 12oz tiki mug. Fill with club soda and stir gently.

Mabey it's already been invented I don't know I'm not a bartender but try this and you will know why it's called "The Kreeper"

It's a nice tropical backard party drink, enjoy...
