El Dorado Rum - is the white a good Demerara?

Pages: 1 3 replies

I'm in Michigan, where we have a restricted list of liquors we can purchase. I'm aware I can order online, but at the moment I'm exploring what's available in store.

El Dorado is no longer allowed to be imported into Michigan stores, but my local store has some of the white on the shelf (no age statement.) Would this be a good choice in a recipe calling for a Demerara? Or is it too light bodied to bring those flavors to the glass?

J

I doubt it. Usually a recipe calling for a Demerara is talking about an aged/dark demerara with richer flavors.

The unaged ED white has no Demerara character and is not a great white rum. The 3 year ED white is a very good white rum as a high-end mixer but still won't work in a cocktail calling for aged Demerara.

Thanks. That's what I suspected. I'll have to look for an alternate, or import something.
