Best Exotica & Lounge Podcasts

What are the best Exotica, Lounge & Retro podcasts?

It seems like they all go through the same cycles; Enthusiasm, Sweat, Fun, then the Stark Realization that they're not only Not Making a Dime for the producers, but they're actually a money drain seeing as they're soaking up hours of otherwise productive time for the DJs. Then, of course, the streaming technology changes on them and OOOPS!

So here's to the dedicated few who continue with Podcasts, and those brilliant ones who have discovered a way to simply make it fun and not too much of a money pit.

I listen to :

The Quiet Village Podcast (Hopefully more are coming but the backlog is still amazing)
Inside the Desert Oasis Room
The Bachelor Pad Radio Show
Buddie's Lounge
Zen Tiki Lounge
Koop Kooper's Cocktail Nation
Exotic Tiki Island (Still going?...)
Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast (musician interviews, etc.)

All of these have easily accessible older shows, and play without an app.

So what other Podcasts are out there?...

Hi Cammo!

Don't forget "Ports of Paradise" has been broadcasting weekly on PBS 106.7FM in Melbourne, Australia for nearly 5 years … with no lack of enthusiasm :D :D

It doesn't make me any money (most of our presenters are volunteers), but it generates significant income for the station though listener memberships and I'm happy to say it is one of the more popular shows on the station

You can stream the last 6 months of shows from https://www.pbsfm.org.au/program/ports-of-paradise

... but then I just realised you might be specifically interested in downloadable podcasts. Oops!

Download Schmownload, you have a great Podcast!

I'm constantly surprised that music producers, CD makers, etc. don't run a podcast of their top artists; it's generally free and they already have the rights to the music. Seems like a no brainer. And Smilin' Koop Kooper seems to have a wall of free donated CDs that artists hope he'll play on his show.

So here's an updated list:

**The Quiet Village Podcast

Ports of Paradise Podcast with Palmtree Paddy (say it 10 times fast!)
https://www.pbsfm.org.au/program/ports-of-paradise

Exotica Hour with Cudra Clover (Not active? - but great older shows)

Inside the Desert Oasis Room

The Bachelor Pad Radio Show

Buddie's Lounge

Zen Tiki Lounge

Koop Kooper's Cocktail Nation

Exotic Tiki Island

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

Any more out there?!?!?

K

Mine's not a podcast, but a 24/7 online radio station taken from my vinyl record collection that features easy listening Hawaiian and exotica that some here may enjoy. Called "Hawaiian Hi-Fi" on Live365.com. They also have an app one can download to make it easy to listen on mobile devices.
https://live365.com/station/Hawaiian-Hi-Fi-a52179

I also have an all easy listening station, also from vinyl records, called "Moody Mood Music"
https://live365.com/station/Moody-Mood-Music-a76693

These are just hobbies, I do them for fun, make no money at all from it.

There's another thread on this topic: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=52725&forum=11

Thanks for those links, Kaiwaza. I didn't realize you also had an easy listening station in addition to your Hawaiian one.

Speaking of radio stations, there's also Quiet Village Radio, and Exotic Tiki Island has ETI Radio

Thanks for the ideas! Recently moved and have been listening to podcasts lots more than usual since not fully unpacked and musically operational yet. I've mostly been enjoying the archives of Quiet Village and Exotic Tiki Island for music while working (plus the Desert Oasis Room and 5 Minutes of Rum.) I'll have to check out the these others!

I'm excited by Cammo's list. It's good to see an updated list. There are a few that I didn't know about.

I'm fairly certain that Cudra Clover is done podcasting (sigh). I always enjoyed her shows. I continue to listen to archived shows.

Koop Kooper is still at it. I don't know how many years he has been doing it but Kat and I have been listening to him for years.

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast is entirely new to me. I'll check it out.

I like podcasts because:

  1. As opposed to streaming online "radio" they have set lengths and are easy to DJ to themes.

  2. You can bookmark favorite podcasts for playback at parties/long drives/background at work.

  3. They don't (the better ones don't) have commercials!

  4. When people ask "Duh, what's Tiki music?!" you can pretend that everybody on Earth is listening to these really hip podcasts that you've bookmarked on your phone and they are totally missing out on an enormous universal phenomenon. Just don't show them the podcast dates.

  5. Where else are you going to find a solid hour of 1960's Spy Music?

So here's the update, I'm not including links, you folks will just have to go hunting through the tall weeds for yourself, that's half the fun, uh, I think...
