Oh, good; I'm glad you're doing it again. At least you added January to this year's calendar, so you still have a little time....

MDM,

I have a bunch of new entries for the calendar, will post them here soon.

You should update "Super Ting Tong" to "The Bamboo Club."

And how about adding Max’s South Seas Hideaway's opening on October 19, 2019 in Grand Rapids?

Thanks Hamo

So MDM, I know I hit you with some really late additions for the 2020 calendar, but here we are heading towards the third week of January! Any status on the 2020 version? Looking forward to it, as always.

Sincerely,

DC

DC!!! I am running behind but I can't blame it on your late entries  Too many projects going on right now. I have a 1964 calendar created and all of the events entered on the proper day. Just need to find medium to high resolution pics for each of the months. I have to work Saturday night and should have some downtime, hope to finish it then

MDM,

I just happen to know someone who has a wealth of medium to hi resolution Tiki images that could help with your calendar. PM me your email and I will have that someone send over some images that may be of assitance.

DC

2020 Calendar is available for download here or see the link of the first page. Some great images provided by Dusty Cajun so it will be prettier this year than in previous years.

Looks good MDM! One correction, the September images are from the Kon Tiki restaurant in Portland, not Phoenix.

DC

One more correction, the Kon Tiki images from the first January page in January is from Tucson and not Phoenix.

DC

I guess I had Phoenix on my mind  Thanks for those corrections, I updated it and will have Ace load the new one. Unfortunately, yours has already been printed with the wrong info :/

Another great looking calendar, Mike. Thanks!

MadDogMike I didn't see where you put down the date you began to share each of these events. You are an event! Thank you, Wendy

Hamo, thanks
Wendy,

Mike, I don't suppose you've been secretly working on a 2023 calendar that I can print and hang on my office wall, like the good old days (pre-2020)? No pressure--there's still a few days left in the year....

I had forgotten all about that calendar :( It is a little late but let me see what I can do. Maybe I can keep the same pics and rearrange the dates?

Can anyone think of important Tiki dates that have happened in the past 2 years? The death of Harry Yee and the closing of the Mai Kai :(

Mai-Kai opened on 28 of Dec. 1956.

The closing of the Mai Kai is apparently temporary, so I don't think that's worth putting down. But you can soon include the closing of Trader Vic's London unfortunately.

Well, I just checked https://www.whencanireusethiscalendar.com, and we could just reuse the 1961/2017 calendar, which would make things much easier....

[ Edited by Hamo on 2022-12-29 18:28:07 ]

Will carve and arriano thank you
Hamo I'll check and see if I have that file. AceExplorer may still it preserved somewhere. But I still need to check it over, I made some changes between 2017 and the last one I published (2019? 2020?)

[ Edited by MadDogMike on 2022-12-30 17:12:56 ]

T

Damn I thought SOMBODY would beat me to this one.

You could also add Bills birthday year 1928 to the list as it only has Bills birthday as June 14th.

2021 F. William Sapp, age 92 died February 11th, 2021 / Birth: June 14, 1928 Laid to rest February 17th Tikiskips birthday.

Thanks tikiskip. I think I had the date of his birth but not the year from an article about a grass hut (?) place burning down on his birthday

T

If you manage to fill every date of the calendar with something of Tiki significance, then you could market it as showing a reason to have a cocktail every day! Think about that!

We need a reason to have a cocktail every day? LOL

Well it certainly prevents people from calling you that nasty "A" word, if you can say that you have a perfectly good REASON for having a drink! Here's a calendar full of them! See? It's legit!

[ Edited by TIKIGIKI on 2023-01-01 15:10:40 ]

LOL

I'm about half done with a new calendar, got a few questions Does anyone know the official closing date for Oceanic Arts? How about a closing date for TikiCat in Kansas City? (July something 2020) Is Lost Rivers in Chicago still open? If not what's the closing date?

Thanks

[ Edited by MadDogMike on 2023-01-03 08:33:38 ]

I might argue November 24, 2021 for OA's closing, since that's when they closed to the general public:

image

Lost Lake's last day was January 15, 2022:

https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/01/07/lost-lake-closing-next-week-marking-end-to-popular-logan-square-tiki-bar/

Not sure about TikiCat yet. As far as I can tell, they never reopened after being forced to close in early 2020, and then their lease ended sometime that July.

Thanks Hamo

Almost ready! I just submitted one to Staples to make sure it prints correctly

My calendar printed beautifully. AceExplorer has graciously agreed to host the pdf file on his website again. Special thanks to DustyCajun for the photos that he curated for the 2020 calendar and I stole for the 2023 calendar.

There is a link on the first page of this thread for the pdf file along with updated directions to print at Staples if you don't want to mess with printing yourself.

Enjoy!
