Progress

This is about a month ago. I went away for a week and came home to this.

Almost finished.

There will be a roll up door on the front.

Nice progress. Is the design sort of standard design the contractor is working from? Rather, no options for something other than white wall and ceiling finishes? Ground up builds are new to me. Curious how flexible they are.

This looks like it’ll be a great space for a bar.

Too late now, but I'd have recommended more power outlets on the walls and ceiling. That makes adding light so much easier. My curiosity is piqued, so I am looking forward to see how you deck out this blank slate!

It’s been almost a year since I’ve updated so I’ll start with the paint job I know I should have waited to paint before I put anything inside the bar, but I was so excited I had to right away. I got a cornered shelving unit off Amazon and a kitchen cart on wheels to start. I have a small space and I wasn’t sure where the final location of the bar would be. Next I took everything back out of the bar to paint. 2 coats of bonding primer, that sucked, and 3 coats of blue. Then I painted a bamboo mural on the walls. I really love this dark color, such an improvement over the white.

We told our contractor exactly what we wanted, basically a shed with a garage door, so we can open up the wall that faces the pool.

Painting and decorating we’ll do ourselves.

So the window AC unit is hideous, but we don’t want to get rid of it. So here is my solution for a window covering. I cut out a palm leaf design from thin plywood then painted it. There is less coverage at the bottom so it won’t impede airflow.I did make a mistake when selecting wood. I thought 1/4” would be easy to work with, but the jigsaw really tore it up. I would have been better off with 3/8”. Fortunately everything looks better once it’s been painted. And I can just tell myself that any rough edges have a Witco-esque aesthetic. would it be a really bad idea to paint the AC unit? I’ll probably just put some tall things in front of it for now.

That cutout screen turned out quite nice! That entire plastic front panel is removable on some window units. If yours is like that then I'd think you could just pull it off and spray it down with a rattle can. As long as paint doesn't intrude into the inner workings there shouldn't be an issue.
