Art Swap 2025 - Tiki Pendants

TikiAno, looking nice! Here's another small peek 😁. Getting closer now. I think it's going to be really fun! I've sculpted before, and although I didn't sculpt the skulls, I learned how to make silicone molds out of both those and the tiki, i've learned to pour resin, and I'm having fun painting this stuff (you'll have to wait for that part)! Hahaha, thanks Wendy! These were my test tiles, of a kind, for the polymer clay.... to check to see how far the polymer clay was needed, and how to attach pieces, et cetera....

I think I need to warm up the clay a bit more next time... hopefully some better pieces to come... I found some of the themed pendants (that survived) I used to make for Tiki Oasis each year for our local Ohana (when it was smaller at least) which got my mind going in a few different directions.... (these were made from midfire clay)..

Have some work to do!

Picked up old clay tools and wedged some Fimo polymer clay together. This really helped, creating more flexibilty and made it easier to use- though tougher to slice since it was softer.

Trying for a wood meets clay look combining the black and brown clay bodies. Made a few beads which will hang next to the Moai, wanted everything hand made (except for the thread) for the Swap. Just out of the oven, will cool off then figure out layout on thread....

(tried out bending some metal to create a loop for the main pendant, think it looks a bit cleaner than using a clay loop, will test it out to confirm it's strong/ attached enough....

I was working on a bonus skull and crossbones and was surprised that the white polymer clay had some sparkles in it- so.... the black and white beads on the necklace may bit a bit... fancy....

OK here it is. The final version. I sculpted the tiki, then I made a silicone mold of it and casted it in resin. I also casted all of the skulls in different resin. When I had good casts I painted them, then clear coated them, but not the back, so that you can see the resin colors. Then I drilled them and made my own twist wires to hold them to the shell necklace. Hopefully whoever gets this will enjoy it. I know I'm going to miss it!
