Canada. If ever a country was more fantastically geared for plastic escapism, I’ve not heard of it. Maybe New Hampshire pre 1776. Additionally, if ever a parliamentary republic had worse liquor rules and selection, I’ve also not heard of such a place. BUT… The rum choice up in this Northern piece happens to be great. No embargo, so full Cuban selection. Wray and Nephew. Hart and Son. Every other mixable option too. The point of my mini rant is—am I noticing anything special here? Or am I just being childishly positive? Could I achieve the same things in say….Cleveland? Perhaps Albuquerque? You guys are the best, don’t ever change. Maybe you could drink a bit less and hit the gym once in a while and get more lather on your private parts but you know who am I to judge? Love, -G. |

You made me laugh. I had to actually visit 3 cities in Cuba to make my rum hoard. I also brought back a carefully selected hoard of cigars to (occasionally) enjoy the ultimate pairing of Cuba’s best. In my opinion, their cigars are overrated due to changes in fertilizer practices not possible under their current policies and constraints. Their aged and reserve rums are where it’s at though. However even there, other parts of the Caribbean have easily met or exceeded the current state of Cuba’s rum producers. Canada? Never been there cuz I don’t speak Canadish. 😎🗿🗿🗿 |

Yes, I imagine a Dominican cigar has pretty much caught up to Cuba by now. Canada has much less selection in the food and drink world than the US—I know this because I am of both countries. West Coast seafood, Cuban cigars, and perhaps rum if my theory holds water—Canada might be competitive in these brackets. |
