In what used to be sleepy little Downtown Newhall, where you can travel the Walk of Western Stars, is now becoming the mini epicenter of Santa Clarita with expensive condos and high-rise apartments. But along Main St are a lot of great eateries with decent cocktails and even a speakeasy. Now, there's a tropical bar. I do emphasize tropical, and not tiki, because the decor is very nautical and piratey – and it's for that reason that I can't call it a tiki bar. Not a tiki in sight, at least yet (still undergoing finishing touches, etc). But, the atmosphere is very good nevertheless. Think Broken Compass in Burbank, CA or Inside Passage in Seattle, WA. Drinks as of launch are mostly classic, from your expected Mai Tai and Zombie to a Queens Park Swizzle and a Saturn. The other 1/3 of drinks are some notable drinks from various bars such as Smuggler's Cove, Trader Sam's, and Strong Water. All were pretty on point which was excellent. I had the loco moco to eat which was also excellent. So I feel confident that return visits will likely be solid and am especially looking to some pineapple fried rice. :) Hopefully with a locals influence and with the tiki crowd, it can eventually mold this place into doing unique things, whether that's a mug release or rum tasting, tackling a rum list, etc. And of course, keep this in steady business!
