The historic drive-in restaurant, designed by Pietro Belluschi, is due to close for good on May 23rd. They plan to demolish it and build a Krispy Kreme. Here we go again, and again, and again. http://www.oregonlive.com/search/index.ssf?/base/living/1082031201283600.xml?oregonian?lvls http://pdxhistory.com.tripod.com/seluna/tiffany/waddles/waddles.html |

NO!!! Like a fool, I'd always meant to stop in and check it out on one of my many, many trips past it. But I was always on my way somewhere else. I'd heard it was not long for this world, but I was hoping it would at least last until the NW Tiki Crawl in June. Dangit. |

Krispy Kreme, Starbucks & Walmart are takin' over the whole damn world! There's a big push here in So. Cal. to get places like this declared historical landmarks and saved from the wrecking ball...but let's face it...when money talks, people listen and these guys got a lotta money. On a different track, I wonder if Waddle's has any connection to a little curio shop & writer's workshop next door to Lou's Records here in Encinitas called "Ducky Waddles". Cool place...bought my last Bosko mug there. |

Historical Landmark status doesn't always guarantee safety from the wrecking ball. Remember the Kahiki? |
