Aloha All...

I thought it might be of interest to those friends and Ohana here that follow my current Tiki work to see a glimpse of the career that lead to my art now. I was, as most of you know, a Director and Sr. Concept Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering. As an Imagineer, I painted and drew and sculpted and pitched ideas for new rides and attractions endlessly until embarking on this new venture as a published painter in Hawaii.

I also did this for Universal Studios MCA and numerous other themed Entertainment Companies earlier in my career. This site asked to do a tribute on my contribution to Disney Seas, in Japan. This is about the art and concept development for Journey to the Center of the Earth. Hope it's enjoyable... If you read part ONE in the series on this site on Tom Thordarson, it covers Tiki stuff. All I do is paint like a mad man nowadays!! I am still young..so I imagine I have a few thousand paintings to go before my time is up!! lol Site is:

Cool stuff Tom! It's really neat to see a lot of the storyboards and sketches. I also looked back at the tiki article and LOVE the Obama Tiki! Awesome work!

Thanks for posting Tom!

When my dream money becomes reality and I secure the Santa Monica property that remains sacred, I'm hiring you to be the coneptual / art director for a new Pacific Ocean Park!

Doesn't hurt to dream..

Sorry to have missed you at the Mayflower club last month. Let's hang out at the Tonga Room sometime aye?

Thor,

I took me a while to figure it out, since you write in the 3rd person on the blog. I thought it was some kind of a tribute or something. The Tiki page looks amazing. I'll add you to the directory when I got a chance.

Dave

Aloha Dave!!

The tribute was done by Alain, the publisher of this site and the Book who aproached me a Month or so ago. He was the "3rd person" not me. lol He just also posted my responses in quotes as well, to questions...otherwise, it's written by Alain. Nice to hear from you!!

Brilliant creative work, masterfully rendered. Back in the 90's I did a great deal of theme-related writing and conceptual development for SimEx, Iwerks, Uni and WB, and really appreciate and respect the skill and talent Thor so prolifically possesses -- crucially required to realize the imagery that completely immerses audience members in an entertainment experience. It's one thing to make pretty pictures (and lord knows TT does that superbly), but another altogether to render fantastic imagery that's awe-inspiring and also build-able.

Bravo, and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to those 'few thousand more paintings', and the delightful prospect of many more years of Thor's unique visions.

SOK
