Michigan outdoor seating

Pages: 1 5 replies

Not sure if this is the right spot for this question. I am looking for some ideas for Tiki inspired outdoor seating. It will be unprotected from the weather and spend all year outside. Hopefully comfortable too. I see others from the warmer year round climates have great seating. They don't seem like they would last here very long. Just wondering what others have done in this situation. Helpful ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I don’t have an outdoor tiki bar, but in my limited experience if you want durability go with metal or plastic. Wood will decay in the sun very fast and often the glues will start to give out. Something like faux rattan in the plastic category or metal framed ones with removable cushions with tiki prints could work well with the theme. Bamboo would be nice but I feel those will dull out in the sun / rain fast.

Busylivin…Did you have any luck with outdoor furniture to weather the western MI winters? If not, maybe you could just go with some pressure treated pine picnic table and chairs trimmed out in Tiki designs using a router and then flame treating the cut out areas followed by some stain to give a vintage look. Theres ‘S a great video on Lagoon of Mystery on how to do this with trim used in an outdoor tiki bar (Episode 8 here’s the link) https://youtu.be/uWP8hqQgQ3U?si=h4F5Y4Ghm4RezLp6

If you did find some potential leads, I would be interested in what you uncovered since I’m build a home between Manistee and Frankfort and will building out a tiki bar myself.

Also if you’re interested, I found some used bamboo furniture at a resale shop in Manistee that could be left outside if you covered it up for the winter.

Thanks for the responses. I found some furniture that is partial plastic I think. I am going to give that a try. Just need to get some outdoor cushions made so they will hold up to the weather.
