Anyone who hasn't read the original book should...it is truly fascinating. The photo pictorials and treatise on shark fishing alone is well worth a trip to ye olde book shop.

Very cool- it sounds like they will be sending back pictures to post on the internet. I am planning to reread the book- I read it when I was about ten.

The award-winning movie/documentry about it is awesome as well.

The one question remains: Will the Kon-Tiki have to be towed past the coastline currents, like last time, or will it be able to sail directly from the coastline, as the ancient mariners would have done?

Regardless, the Kon Tiki is doning what the Hokule'a of Hawaii has done.

I read the book also when I was a kid but last weekend I found a hard copy with dust jacket and I'm going to start reading it tomorrow.

Such a great book. If you like that sort of thing you should read, "Shackeltons Adventure." Takes place in a very different part of the world but equally as interesting.
