Doctor Z's Led Zeppelin Ticket

Pages: 1 11 replies

I'm always impressed with my buddy, Doctor Z's, acuity in picking up certain items at garage sales. While I'm over scavenging in the boxes of used books or record albums, looking for that obscure gem, "Z" is inevitably thumbing through a box of dollar music cds or videos, or rock-n-roll stickers, or going through the dishes and glassware, looking for YET ANOTHER Beachbum Burt's glass or tiki mug. I never get tired of watching him go through a box of fifty cds, quickly picking out the four or five that will sell for $20 or up on E-bay. He's got quite a knowledge-base of music in that head of his.

So a couple of weeks ago, we're looking through some old 1970's scrapbooks (you might have seen some prom photos I posted on another thread), and Doctor Z calmly chooses a little envelope with a Led Zeppelin concert ticket inside. I would have totally discounted such an item and probably passed it by, but Doctor Z takes it home, and with a little research on the internet - Wham! - he has a winner of an auction:

Just 2 days left to go and I have no idea how high this baby is gonna go. That is how to write an auction, my friends!

That's a damn nice score! I hear you Sabu, I always feel like I'm looking in the wrong places too. Frustrating as hell. Although this past weekend I picked up a mint condition Johnny Cash album on the Sun label for $3. I thought I had a good score, but I checked Ebay and there are like three of them that aren't even bid on yet at the ends of their auctions.

I also found a 1970 Matchbox carrying case for two bucks. Another big score I thought, but another clunker on Ebay. Oh well...gotta start looking through those trashed family albums.

Damn, Dr. Z. I don't even like Led Zepplin and I want to buy it. I great example of how to write an auction, for sure.

Damn! I wish I hadn't of tossed my old Hot Tuna tickets.

The concert was scheduled to start at 10am? Would the band (or its fans) even be up by then? I would have been, but it seems an odd time to start a show like that.

I have a Doors ticket found at a bus stop. " the Doors @ the Whiskey a Go Go. " Hey Z, wanna be my rep?

T

Did they play their famous hit, Hairway to Steven?

Since this show was at the Oakland Coliseum, it was probably one of those legendary "Day on the Green" all-day festivals. Zep wouldn't be performing that early. :D

Thanks for the kind words, both on the find, and the auction itself. Just a few more hours left on the auction and it seems kinda stalled... However, I've been contacted by numerous collectors who are very interested in it, none of whom have entered a bid yet. One veteran collector (with more than 400+ Zeppelin tix in his collection) said that he'd never seen a ticket for this show before and wasn't aware that tickets for it had ever been printed!

I'm hopin' the bidders come out in force near the end - the proceeds of this auction represent most of my Hukilau spending money!!

ps - Rev: lets talk! I'll sell anything for anybody...

Woo-Hoo! $172.50! Not bad for a little scrap of card-stock. Was the final bidder one of those big time collectors who had contacted you earlier?

Congrats, Buddy!
