The Latest in Home Computers

I love yesterday's vision of tomorrow. My friend Beatnikini sent me this photo recently. Here is what the cut off caption says:

"Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a "home computer" could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not be economically feasible for the average home. Also the scientists readily admit that the computer will require not yet invented technology to actually work, but 50 years from now scientific progress is expected to solve these problems. With teletype interface and the Fortran language, the computer will be easy to use..."

My first question is what the heck is the steering wheel thingy on the left for?

come on, everyone knows that personal computers (PC's) are just a fad!*

(*sarcasm, again)

I may soon be haveing to buy a new laptop. Dell is selling this one that is just about as powerfull as my home workstation. It hjas a gig and a half of RAM, an 80 gig hard drive, you can upgrade to a really nice video card, and best of all, it comes with SKULLS screened on the back!!!

I don't need it at all right now and it will run me about 3 grand, but it's got SKULLS on teh back!!!

Oh well. I thought there was something funny looking about the suspended TV set. (Damn pranksters, ruining my vision of a never-to-be retro-futuristic world!)

Hmmm...kinda looks like my system.

I use the wheel to play pong. And drive around my house in the wee hours of the morn.

I don't remember where I got this pic; if it was on TC then maururu to the original poster.

Anyway - it's a KonTiki-100 Computer (look closely at the right side above the keyboard)!
