Hi! I'm brand new here and got a carve-on!Where does one find wood? I'm in Missouri...do I take my chain saw to the forest or do I have to drive to Florida to pick up some palms? Home Depot? Does old driftwood work? Which wood varieties work best? Is it possible to find mahogany? Thanks/Love |

Wood can be hard to come by. I suggest a lot of rubber-necking while driving the back roads! Whenever I see a downed tree I just ask the property owners if it's OK (sometimes "YES" sometimes "NO"). Maybe call up your local tree service folks and see what they do with their aquisitions. Be sure to check any wood top-to-bottom for signs of bugs, rot, etc. My uncle lives in Sarasota and fotunately has fared relatively well through the onslaught. I haven't thought to ask him for some logs. Happy hunting!-FB |
