Chaino - Africana & Beyond'

I've just ordered this title which I've read is something of a bongo classic.

Any opinions on this title?

Chris, to paraphrase the old "Creem" magazine ranking system, I find it to be "Savory, but an aquired taste..."
It's a classic of it's kind, but not exactly in frequent rotation here at the Kava Lounge.
Though a fairly essential recording for most exotica completists, Africana & Beyond doesn't really mesh with the more accessible (and at the time more commercial) exotica artists of the day; i.e., Martin Denny, Aurthur Lyman, etc., but that also makes it appealing as an alternate texture to their more "vanillla" stylings.
It's clattery and loud and generally best enjoyed before the onset of Mai Tai mellowness.

Welcome aboard! IT sounds like you are working on your exotica collection! I can recommend some Gene Rains. If you find a record by him, get it.
