Afternoon delight

Pages: 1 21 replies

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right'
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingnite
And the thought of lovin' you is getting so exciting
Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

seems a couple people i know have funny stories about this song. they mostly revolve around the rather thinly veiled meaning in contrast to its poppy innocence saturating the AM airwaves.

bilge away...?

did someone just watch Anchorman?

maybe perhaps :)

T

This is totally freaky, but I woke up this morning with that song in my head. Haven't seen Anchorman, but heard that bit on the radio a couple weeks ago.

I love the scene in Arrested Development when Michael and his niece Mabe sing the song as karaoke (while lovingly gazing at each other), not knowing what they are singing about til they notice the increasingly horrified looks on the audiences' faces.

a former co-worker of mine related how she was singing this song at a young and tender age, and then she (my co-worker) would imitiate her mom's manillan (?) accent, "you should not be singing this song, you do not know what it means!"

P

This song, together with the Sylvers "Hot Line", is what prompted me in 1976 (or was it 75?) to abandon AM radio and invest in a car stereo with FM.

:music: Loving you, is easy cause your beautiful :music:
This song always comes to mind when I think of Johny Dollar.

Arrested Development is really the funniest show on TV just now. David Cross is incredible in it! A non-nude....

I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board, I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I'll try, oh Lord, I'll try to carry on

Come Sail Away - as sung by Eric Cartman

"Afternoon Delight","Midnight at the Oasis" and "A Horse with No Name" are songs to torture me with. I've injured myself trying to change the radio station fast enough. I think that happened when all three were on the radio as I was scanning stations in the car. Amazing that I survived.

As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can’t imagine why
We’ve all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can’t imagine why
We’ve all got time enough to cry

And I was walking down the street one day
Being pushed and shoved by people trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just don’t know
I don’t know
And I said, yes I said

Background:
People runnin’ everywhere
Don’t know where to go
Don’t know where I am
Can’t see past the next step
Don’t have time to think past the last mile
Have no time to look around
Just run around, run around and think why

Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can’t imagine why
We’ve all got time enough to die

Oh okay...

Goodbye to you, my trusted friend.
We've known each other since we're nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills or trees.
Learned of love and ABC's,
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time.
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me right from wrong.
Too much wine and too much song,
wonder how I get along.
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little children everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the wine and the song,
like the seasons, all have gone.
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down
you would always come around
and kick my ass back to the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the bird are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
With the flowers ev'rywhere.
I wish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the stars we could reach
were just starfish on the beach

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH !

The only thing worse is semi spoken word portion of The Day The Music Died.

I drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
and good ol' boys drinkin' whiskey & rye sayin' "this'll be the day that I die boy, this'll be the day that I die.

does it get any better than that!

:music: * me and you and a dog named Boo
travelin' and a livin' off the land
me and you and a dog named Boo
how I love bein'
a free man...* :music:

:music: Uncle Miltie Delight! :music:
(Inside joke folks)

I remember being a child of the 70's thinking that the song "Afternoon delight" had somthing to do with the tv show "Love American Style" I guess the whole skyrockets in flight vs the intro with fireworks for the show.

Ahhh to be so naive again...

Someone pass me a drink!

One of my favorite canceled Fox shows back when the network was more schizophrenic (i.e. Herman's Head) was Get A Life and I remember the surreal male bonding scene with Chris Elliot and Martin Mull frolicking in slow motion to Afternoon Delight. I'm glad The Starland Vocal Band have a Grammy for Best New Artist.

Gimme Some Lovin'
by G. Love And Special Sauce

Gimmie some lovin' early in the mornin'
i just woke up with this appitite,
common gimme lovin' in the morning light
Gimme some lovin' early in the mornin'
i just woke with this appitite,
common gimmie lovin' in the morning light

Some people like it in the afternoon,
i dont' think i could wait that soon
Common gimmie love in the morning light
Some people like it late at night,
i could wait that long, but i don't think i might
common gimme love in the morning light

I'm gonna love you softly and love you sweet
i can feel you heartbeat
i need your attention to get me started right.
i'm gonna wake you up with a kiss on the cheek
come a little close, open up to me
good morning babe, good morning babe

open your eyes just a little bit
good morning sunshine, i can't resist
dreamin' about you babe all through the night
