Danger Girl at LAX Encounter Bar Fri PM 2/18

Pages: 1 14 replies

I just conveniently have a few hours to kill after a business conference and would like to hang out at the Encounter at LAX from around 6 or 7 to around 8 pm, if anyone wants to meet me there, or provide any info on it.

Thanks!

Damn, I am tempted!

I am out of town on biz most of next week (a place called "Vegas" ... whatever will I do?) but will be back by the 18th ... possibility business might call me up to LA that date (I'm in San Diego) and if yes, then let's hook.

Encounter is too divine for words. It's the closest thing to stepping inside of a Shag painting this side of retro-cool space-age heaven. Lousy food and drinks and service and outrageous prices are something of a buzzkill, but the place is simply not to be missed!

And speaking of buzzkill, if you're catching a flight you may want to split earlier than 8 -- the line for the security check at LAX is as ugly as a cheap porn flick. Unless of course you're boarding a private jet, which, if you truly are DangerGirl, I assume there is a high probability thereof.

Will be in touch!

Encounter at LAX is possibly the most cool building/edifice/structure in the entire city.

The inside is almost as good as the outside, and it is bathed in incredibly groovy colors at night, futher enhancing its jet set mystique.

I might be able to make it.

Why does it seem like all the cool themed places have lousy food/drinks/service? Can anyone name a place like this that doesn't?

I'm pretty sure I can be there -- my work is just a few minutes from LAX, and I've been looking for an excuse to checkout Encounter. Whee!

please note this is NOT tonight but in TWO more weeks!

just planning ahead...

Color me there!
(actually I'm a greyish green hue)
I LOVE bad food, bad drinks, and bad service!

I'm about to take off to So Cal. I will try to make it to the Encounter this Friday night around 6 or 7, but with traffic and whatnot I can't guarantee. Fingers crossed!

p.s. anyone have anything scary to warn me about driving from LAX to San Diego in a rental car late tonight? Are there "torrential rains"? SHould I bring a flotation device?

The forecast is for scattered showers.

Study a freeway map carefully. Then, when you get in your car, turn it on AM 1070 (traffic updates every 10 min.s or so). If 405 S is clogged, then make your way to either 105 E or 91 E and take it to 710 S, then re-hook on 405 S. If 405 S is not clear at that point (keep it on AM 1070!), then go all the way to 5 S to San Diego. If 5 S is clogged, then this will be the punishment for all your sins.

If you're staying at one of the hotels on Hotel Circle in San Diego, don't park next to the river uless you're car doubles as a submarine.

Business, alas, does not call me to LA this day, so Satan's Sin will not be at the Encounter.

But dangergirl, business will call me back to SF sometime this Spring; perhaps there might be a calling-together of the tiki clans at the Tonga Room ... ?

I keep forgetting to post my pics from this night! It was swell helping Dangergirl pass the time at LAX, the Theme Building is really very cool. I could do without the interior, but at least the building is still standing.
