I got a week in San Diego, an opportunity to find carving supply stores! Does anyone have any good places they know of? Or anything else cool worth seeing. |

When are you coming? Are you looking for chisels and such or actual tikis? There are lots of places to see (Bali Hai, The Islands @ Hanalei, Mr. Tiki, The 'Ona Tiki bar & grill etc.) Keep us posted. |

Try Rockler's Woodworking. They have a great store up here in Orange County, and the website also shows a location in the San Diego area. It's a great store for carving supplies. I know some of the other TC guys in my area go there also. Enjoy your trip. A-A |

You can get a excellent assortment of tools from online providers so seeing them in person is not that important (Lee Valley, Rockler etc). What I would do is check out the wood stores here in San Diego County. Frost Hardwood in San Diego has a huge selection of exotic lumber at fairly competitive prices. http://www.frosthardwood.com Cut and Dried Hardwood in Solana Beach has an excellent selection of exotic woods and carving stock. The also have a tremendous library of books from cabinet making to carving. They also sell some tools. http://www.cutanddriedhardwood.com Tropical Exotic Hardwoods in Carlsbad has some excellent and rare wood both in lumber and carving/turning stock. The owners kida smug but he has some wonderful stuff.http://www.anexotichardwood.com/ |

YES! Rockler's is my "happy place". Monkeyman, thanks for posting those wood resources. Your frames are better than anything that could go inside. I'll definitely be taking a roadtrip to some of those S.D. wood stores when I get the chance. Surfin', let's see some zebrawood tiki. I fell in love with that stuff ever since I saw Benz post it!
