What to do in Chicago

Pages: 1 7 replies

Hi,
I search for sightseeing tips in Chicago.
Tikibars, good restaurants and hotels will be fine, too.

By the way, I search for the name and address of the bar/restaurant, which owns by Al Capone family members.
It calls something like "Al Mariage".
Can anybody help me ??

Thanks,
Wolli

And of course Tiki Road Trip and Tiki Bar Review Pages and Critiki should fill in the gaps.

Al Capone used to own the Green Mill on Broadway. Very cool, all original 1920s bar. Live jazz 7 nights a weel. Snotty staff. Expensive.

Hotels?

I don't stay in too many of them in my own town. I know where all of the motels with cool vintage neon signs are, but most of them seem dumpy, and are off of the beaten path. If you want to stay downtown, the Palmer House Hilton is home to Trader Vic's.

Oh, man!

Chicago rocks.

  1. The Wild Hare is the best reggae club, ever. This is a sublime place. Magical memory factory.

  2. Across the street is Exodus, another great reggae club.

  3. Trader Vic's in the Palmer House Hotel is a classic.

  4. The Art Institute is second only to the Met in NY for an art excursion (IMHO.)

  5. Try a new resaurant called Alinea.

  6. Gino's East, Tony's, and Pizzeria Uno all have authentic deep dish pizza.

  7. Buddy Guy used to have a music club that got good acts.

  8. Music Direct has a good selection of new vinyl records.

Best wishes!

If you're going to be downtown, you have to check out Millennium Park.Absolutely gorgeous-used to be a rail yard. It's right next to the Art Institute. If you like to shop,go to Water Tower Place.I could go on and on.Love Chicago!!!

Aloha smokin devil

visited Cicago about three years ago. first time there and I loved it. Some places I enjoyed were:

Jilly's - 1007 N Rush Street. Top notch all around. Jilly was Frank Sinatra's bodyguard. That should give you an idea of this guy's "street cred".

Buddy Guy's - 754 S. Wabash. BUDDY GUY!...'nuff said.

Underground Wonder Bar - 10 E. Walton. A freindly bar open 'till 4:00AM, gr8 drinks, good live music and right in the heart of the city.
