Orlando Tiki...

Besides Disneyland, is there any tiki in the Orlando area worth checking out?

I think you mean DisneyWORLD. Sea World has a luau, there is a chinese place on I-Drive called the Mai-Tiki bar that has some nice vintage decor, and there's the infamous Wai-Tiki on Wall Street downtown. Tiki Golf on I-drive is kind of cool if you like putt-putt.

Hey Coconut Pete:

here are some links to Orlando related tiki:http://condoexpress.com/Liki_Tiki_Village.htm

http://www.atlanticfountains.com/Musical_fountain_HR.htm

http://www.joevitalestudio.com/ located in Winter Park (suburb of Orlando)

I have never been to the Liki Tiki Village, so I can't vouch for that, but i have driven by the Hawaiian Rumble Mini_Golf on International Drive: they have some pretty cool tikis on display.

Also Joe Vitale Studio is in Winter Park.

Have Fun!

Palama Tiki

What about the "Big Bamboo", guys, does that still exist? I failed to seek it out last time I was in town. An honest to goodness dive, started by a Pacific war veteran, it was a welcome change to the "nothing was here before the 80s" corporate theme park landscape of Orlando.

It even had a small Barney West Tiki in it, which, since it was not secured, I doubt will still be around. I left it there, though I was VERY tempted. A clear dilemma: I was probably the only person in a 100 mile radius who knew what it was, and some drunk might walk off with soon...yet I stayed true to my principles and listened to the white angel in my right ear.

Thanks for the info. I knew as soon as I typed Disneyland, there was going to be some trouble. I'll get it right next time.

hey BigBro:

here's the website for Big Bamboo:

http://www.bigbamboolounge.com/

this is the first i've heard of it; i'll definitely have to check it out!

well, i guess i'll check it out if and when it reopens; still closed due to hurricane damage.

Oh, that's not a good sign, that it is STILL closed. Wow, they do have a lot of stuff at Cafe Press....I am sad though that, for me personally, all that happy-go-lucky Pacific War veteran imagery is tainted nowadays.

I hear ya, BigBro!

No worries, Pete. I usually avoid the mega-theme parks anyway. I highly recommend GatorLAND.

Although this may not be considered "true" tiki, it was fun anyway:

Unfortunately, the Big Bamboo is still closed and it is unlikely to reopen. Some of us regulars meet up at Coconut Willy's, which is such a shitty bar with HORRIBLE tropical decor

Liki Tiki Village has some nice tiki gods, but it's a time share resort. It's sad that we did a tour there just to check out the tiki gods!

We love Mai-Tiki on I-Drive and close by to Mai-Tiki is the Bad Ass Coffee Co, which is a Hawaii based chain that has some cool Hawaiian stuff, a few tikis, and good coffee.

Besides Tiki Golf, there is also "Hawaiian Rumble" golf on 535.

WaiTiki is downtown is awesome, of course.

Send me an email to [email protected] if you want some more info or directions.

The past two January's I have stopped in at the Big Bamboo and it was closed both times. I really had my hopes up last time, because where I was staying was less than two miles from it.

I did stop by WaiTiki (downtown Orlando) and it was pretty cool. I would definitely recommend checking it out. They Make pretty good Mai-Tais and here is a must try; "Krispy Kream Bread Pudding".

this was found on myspace recently......looks like liki tiki in the background.....the space shuttle playground ride gives you an approximate date of the early eighties(?)

Great photo catch. I'd say the photo may have been taken later, because of "boy-shorts" style swimsuit didn't come into fashion until the 1990s.
