Do any of you So. Cals remember Larry Capune?
He died of Cancer last summer after a long career of speaking to any kid who would listen...about what you can achieve in life if you set your mind to it.

I saw this guy twice in Jr High (early '70s) and he was really a great fellow. He would spin yarns about long distance paddling down the Atlantic Coast and really liked telling stories about what freeks the Kennedy's were when they had met.

Does anyone else remember him speaking at their school/church/cell block?

I seem to recall this guy as well but as per the norm for my skool daze.....wasn't paying attention

Did he live in a van

Down by the river

Yes, Larry's training grounds were right in front of my house.
Every day any weather any conditions
Larry would paddle by, non stop, never rested.
Spoke at our Jr. high 3 times
Turns out he was also my father's patient from like 1973 until 1989. Then my pops retired.
We (Bratty Jr. high kids)loved to make fun of him, he was rather bizarre.
But no doubt in my mind one of the most dedicated men on earth.
No one and I mean no one will touch the distance Larry has paddled.
Paddle in peace Larry
