Virtual Tiki Room!

OK - so all of you out there finding that Shout doesn't waste quite enough of your time....

Disney is Beta launching it's "Virtual Magic Kingdom":

It seems to have a bit of bugs in it still (and someone stole "MY" name tangaroa....) - but could be interesting.

Or hell on earth - depending on your view of theme parks....

Of course I visited the Tiki Room first:

Then took a ride on the Monorail:

Looks like there are games to play - talk with the other "players" - buy stuff, etc....

Then I realized I'd actually better get my ass to work.

Mac's browser Safari won't work by the way - try IE.

It's funny that someone at Disney chose that cheesey party store tiki design for the tikis in screenshot one

Most people at Disney don't really "get" or understand the signifigance of the Crump & Davis tikis in the original attraction. So to them this is just fine....

Nice but claustrophobic with it's tiny birds eye views.

If only they could model it after There...

Now I will never get anywork done.

I must've been checking it out at the same time as you - I'm the little character in the top picture in the tiki room with the jolly roger shirt and blue flip flops and blonde hair.

They've got the tiki room music playing in the background in that room.

Yeah - I don't think I will spend too much time there... I have so much to do, the last thing I need is another web distraction!

I'm thinking about limiting my surfing to tiki central for the next few months - I waste about 2 hours a day surfing by my estimates (and that's a conservative one)...

That Tiki Room scene got Party City tikis in it.
(OOPS never mind, missed suburbanpagan's earlier post. Shame on me for scrolling too fast.))

This game is AMAZING.

It's in open beta. Everyone can join, and it's free. It runs on any computer that can run the shockwave plugin.

It's a live multiplayer virtual Magic Kingom, with games to play and friends to meet. I'm "Barker" in the game.

It's really fun, and best of all, you can have your own room! Mine is captain nemo themed! There is also a Tiki themed room! And you can buy tikis at Shrunken Ned's and decorate your room with them!

It's a blast, and it's going to get much bigger when it goes live in July.

Come play!

I was working for Disney's game divison back in 1996(? 97? 98?) and they were working on the "VMK" project back then and had already sunk 10+ million dollars into it. I am shocked that after at least 7 years, it's finally out. Ugh.

I ran into Tangaroa today! I asked him if I knew him!

He wasn't you, Chris!

It works fine on my Safari on my mac.

I agree that those tikis suck, but you can buy Tangaroa-Ru for your room!

Ten mill? WOW.

Was there lots of waste? That seems exessive for what it is.

I know - that weasel took my name! Most Disney forums have someone that has beat me to it... It's a popular one - along with (shudder) Master Gracey....

I'm tangaroac on VMK...
