Come As They Were Party - Pics and Food

Here are some photos from a small gathering I had last night called 'Come As They Were',
bring a dish from your parents era (60's, 70's) and the more processed the better!
I have also tried to effect the photos in Photoshop to give them that funky 50's/60's
old photo look, and tried to enhance the food to make it even more lurid.

The Vegetarian Ham, Olive and and Pineapple
Skewers dance merrily around the cheese quiche!

Eric adjusts his polyester shirt while Mark kicks back.
Note the classic old 'stubby' beer bottle in the foreground.

Zingg fondue, Chianti, gherkins, french bread,
and more ham skewers (sort of like veggie Spam).

In the background: Rose (wearing her mom's elephant shirt), Scott, Eric.
In the foreground: Pigs in a Blanket, Fudge made from Velveeta(tm), and Potato Chip Sandwiches.

Taking gelatin to a new level - Mr. Tikifish's piece de resistance,
A bowl of homemade blue vegetarian Jello with Swedish Fish swimming in it,
and a mint sprig as underwater foliage.

My brother enjoys some white wine (I'd like to say its Blue Nun, but alas, no)
and munches some pimento studded Monterey cheese off a Pyrex plate.

Toothpicks are the key to any successful retro party. If you have nothing else,
at least have this. Preferable with festive plastic razzle tops.

Jen and Ian enjoy red wine and stubby beer. And swizzle sticks.

Nori finds the exact recipe for the ham thingys in one of my old cookbooks.
Now we know they are... HAWAIIAN KEBABS!

A close up of the potato chip sandwiches, which accomplished
the impossible by eclipsing the Velveeta Fudge for sheer weirdness.

Velveeta Fudge...you're a braver soul than I.

Where's the Ritz Apple Pie? THAT'S what you put Velveeta on.

Oh and kudos to Mr. TFish for kitschy culinary brilliance.

Eric made the Ritz pie last week. I was not there to taste it, but one day, oh one day I will!

H

Tikifish great pictures, fun...

Oh my gosh! I know the theme for my next dinner party. Velveeta fudge? Potato chip sandwiches? Too much. I also want to have a potluck dinner party where all the food has to look like something else, e.g. cake that looks like hamburgers or hamburger that looks like cake, or chocolate sushi

Because crap doesn't buy itself.

Why can't TAXI be based in L.A....?

T

That's not TAXI, that's my apartment!
