My Missionary Journey to Reno

Pages: 1 7 replies

Just had church meetings in Reno. No trip to Reno would be complete with out a trip to Trader Dick's. Had a great time - the place is pure TIKI - hidden treasures all over the place!

Love this guy - and the silk banana trees!!

Me and my friend John - he was driving from L.A. to Chicago, pulled off the road to meet me there:

Probably the reason I was kissing that tiki - (the dreaded Scorpion Bowl!!)

God bless all the drinking priests of the world!

padre:

when were you there?
I was just there this weekend too!

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!

When I was a youngster, we'd gather up our fake ID's and go there and drink Navy Grogs until all hours while we studied for exams.

We called it "state dependent learning", reasoning that if we stayed loaded the whole time we studied through when we took the tests, we'd be OK.

If only I could set the wayback machine for 1978 and hear the swinging sounds of the Tiki Lounge Duo singing Psycho Killer and various and sundry Be Bop Deluxe tunes after everybody else staggered home.

Joni had it right, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone....

What lovely pictures!Papa, you are a wonderful example of how EVERYONE can enjoy tiki, and not make it an antireligious issue-nice to see!

Trader Dick's is where it's at now, apparently - check it out:

gasp! "normal" people enjoying a tiki bar! Not a vintage or theme outfit or hairstyle in sight - that's blasphemy!

Oy, let the snobbery begin...

Awww - thanks. My religion is my religion - tiki is tiki - I don't get them mixed up. But, I gotta say that both tiki and my religion give me much aloha - and my parish and my ohana are both precious to me! Oh - and Tiki Ti is every bit the Cathedral that Notre Dame is!! :D

Papa, your pics are killing me. I just spent a week-and-a-half in Reno (daughters played in the big volleyball tournament there). Mrs. RB & I were team chaperones, and all the girls' games were in the late afternoon & night, so we never managed to get over to Trader Dick's...despite driving by it just about every day one our way to one of the volleyball sites. Will have to wait 'til next year...:drink:
