a big, big palm tree

The country of Dubai, a small Arab nation off the Persian Gulf, is constructing a giant palm tree shaped resort island, that will add nearly 70 miles of shoreline and will be visible from the moon. They are already 1/3 completed with the sand reclamation effort.

It won't mean nothing unless they place at least one tiki bar on the island.

Actually, Dubai, as aprt of the United Arab Emirates, has a very liberal alcohol policy. They are the only country in the area to have bars and open alcohol consumption.

When will they start to work on the giant Tiki Mug?

What a brilliant idea! A resort in the Persian Gulf. Their timing could not be more excellent. It's the first place I'd think of going to for some peace and quiet. Instead of tying up our money on a Tiki for Tiki Gardens, let's invest in the new Palm Island Resort of Dubai. Anyone?

Trader Vic's already has the Gulf market cornered! In fact (if I'm not mistaken), there are more Trader Vic's in the Middle East than there are in North America! Dubai, Oman, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and even Lebanon. If ANY tiki bar is going up at "Palm Island", I betcha it'll be a TV!!

It's quite frustrating to live in the Middle East and know that there are so many TV's around you yet you can't go there ; )
I guess we don't have foreign Oil company workers here so it never was a viable option.

It would be great to have a Tiki bar here in Israel.

Actually, Dubai is already quite the huge tourist spot. They already have one of the largest hotel/casinos in the world there that's shaped like a 40-story sailboat. Despite obvious reservations that Americans would have about going there, there is someplace called 'the rest of the world' that aren't a bunch of jingo-istic racists that don't have a problem going to the middle east.
