"Kon Tiki" (1951) On The Big Screen Tonight!

For those of you The Los Angeles area, you might want to check out tonights Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences documentary film program. They do this every Monday night and its amazing. Tonight they are showing the documentary about the Kon Tiki voyage! Here's the Link:

Here's the linup:
Benjy (1951) - 20 min. - Henry Fonda narrated this dramatization about a crippled boy, written by Stewart Stern and directed by Fred Zinnemann, which was made as a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital.

Kon-Tiki (1951) - 75 min. - This feature covers the 4,000-mile sea voyage from Peru to Polynesia led by explorer/archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl in a home-made raft.

Neighbours (1952) - 7 min. - Groundbreaking filmmaker Norman McLaren used “pixilation” - animation using living people - to create this allegory about war.

The Sea around Us (1952) 61 min. - Blockbuster filmmaker Irwin Allen wrote, produced and directed this adaptation of famed environmentalist Rachel Carson's book about the world's oceans.

Wow what a show! They even gave out these great one page movie cards with the original poster of "Kon Tiki" on the front and the back is full of movie facts and trivia. Before the film they showed clips of the 1952 Oscar Awards and showed "Kon Tiki" winning the Oscar. Of course they didn't really want to hear a speech from a "documentary" maker so they gave out the award and that was it. Bob Hope was the host that year. The movie was great, as were the other films shown with it. Tiki Tony and Markus from Adrift Clothing were there, Jeff "Beachbum" Berry came with Kevin Kidney and Jodey Daily (designers of Disney's Tiki Room collectables line) Hope you all can make it to the next one.
