My Recent Absence from TC

Pages: 1 21 replies

Ok,
I've clued a few people in on why I haven't
been posting on Tiki Central with my usual frequency.

Well now that things have settled slightly,
I can tell part of the story.

And its an involved one.

18 years ago, the girl I had been seeing a few months earlier, notified me that she was pregnant.Well long story short, she had a daughter, and she was put up for adoption.

Fast forward to the begining of November this year. I basically got the internet version of the
knock on the door.

I have been spending the last month getting to know my daughter Sharie. The process was mostly via internet, but last week, we arranged to finally meet.

I've documented the meeting and the few days that we spent togehter.

She has her fathers flair for the melodramatic. As she wanted to meet at the fountain at Balboa Park. And she added the flair of standing facing the fountain, so she wouldn't see me walking up. Because she said she wouldn't know how to react if she saw me from a distance.

So anyways, heres a link to the photo album

Wow, TG, you got some strong genes there!! Mouth, nose, eyes - everything!!
You'd probably have known she was your daughter from across the room, even if you weren't planning on meeting her, so strongly does she favor you!!

I'm so happy that it was a happy ending for her, especially - that her father wanted to meet her and treated her with love. That will make a HUGE (positive) difference in her life, I predict.

Congrats on gaining a beautiful (grown) daughter :)

Did you give her a tiki?

MR

Congrats. The pictures tell a wonderfull story. Good for you.

What a thrilling, and emotionally riotous thing, to be going through! She is darling. TG, you are such an open and caring person -- I cannot put myself in your daughter's shoes, but if I were going through a crazy life circumstance like that, you're exactly the sort of guy I would hope to find on the other end of it. Congratulations on your new family!

R

From those photo's I get a sense of family from the 2 of you already. Congrats and best wishes on what the future holds for you and your daughter.

Thanks for thinking enough of us to share.

What a beautiful girl. Speaking as a father, I find kids to be the sweetest when they are really small and then when they are really big. Congratulations.

I love stories like this that have a happy ending!

T

Amazing photos TG... I can't imagine what that must have been like for you! Very touching...

Scott, congrats. That is the best excuse to not be on TC I ever saw. you're a Big Daddy now!

Boy is Formikahini right about the resemblance!
Look at the identical expressions, especially the set of the lips!
What a cool story...

Well to be fair, she really does look a lot like her mother also.
Amazingly so. Its nice, she turns one way and I see myself, and
the angle changes just slightly and its all her mother.

She wears both of us very well.

What a fanstastic experience! I wish you both such a wonderful future together. And yes, the resemblance is remarkable.

No but I did end my multi year boycott of Disneyland and took her to the
tiki room.

Added xmess pics.... No tikis sorry...

Oh, if anyone happens to have a studio or one bedroom guesthouse
they aren't looking to charge a small fortune over, we're trying
to find one for her here in L.A.

Preferably near Pasadena. Closer the better...

We're bonded like crazy.

Hey TG, check out this site:
http://www.westsiderentals.com/
They do charge a membership fee that covers 2 months, but it was the only way I would've found my underpriced 2-bedroom that takes cats too. So it was actually worth the money and don't let the name fool you. It does cover all of Los Angeles County.

Already looking there, but thank you so much for replying!!!
It does mean alot!

And the call is out, anybody got a guest house that they can lend
for a nominal fee to help a brilliant little girl change her life
for the better?

We're talking around 700 to 800 bucks.

H

Don't forget Craigslist -- I've heard all sorts of success stories from people who've used it and found neat places to live in Los Angeles. Best of luck, and I'll keep my ears perked!

That's a wonderful thing! A true blessing. TG, did you happen to live in Augusta, Georgia for any period of time?

Nope, but I have Dopplegangers everywhere.
When I lived in socal before my move to Nyc,
people swore they saw me on my vespa when I was
at work. Aparently someone had the same paint scheme
as I did. Which was odd because the scooter scene was so
tight everyone knew everyone else.

But I do have a slew of half brothers and sisters
propegated by my biological father. Long story, short
version, the man is an ass....

The long version... no one has time for that one trust me!

Apartment found!

So we're starting to get the new life in motion.
