Proper Tiki Placement

Aloha everybody,
I ran a search on this and could not find the answer I was looking for. Try putting tiki, and should face in a search and all pele breaks loose.
When we were kids we spent lots of time in Hawaii, my lovely mother worked for the airlines and we could get there rather cheap.
But as remember it, I was just a teenager, when we went to the polynesnian cultural center, I believe they said that the tikis always faced away from the village, or outward towards the sea to ward of any evil spirits coming in.
But is this true?
Now that I think about it, it reminds me of the placement of european gargoyles and the reasons for them, am I confusing the two?
But if it is true, what do you do about bars? Where do you put one inside? Does one facing inward lock in all bad luck from leaving? If you face your to the wall do you just tell everyone that he's a bad little tiki and is in time out?
I think placement is rather important, don't want to stir up any bad mojo.
Thanks for your help, Mr. Dale

Proper Tiki Placement

Now, on this is a topic I can offer some help! I spent way too many years putting my tiki in all the wrong places. Boy howdy, did I pay a price for those miscalculations. Wait, you're talking.....Ok, I got a bit confused there for a second, that dang flashin' light always distracts me. Bar placement is easier. Make sure there is enough open floor space for any inadvertent falls. That's how dear old Dad always did it.

"putting my tiki"?....I am a golfer, too.

The first rule of Tiki Central...you put your tiki anywhere you wanna!

I know that on Easter Island the Moai all face inland.

I was under the impression that all Moai are to face West, towards the sunset. At least that's what the tag on my bird bath said.

Ua naauao kahi poe a ua ole kahi.

Well I guess there's no arguing with the wisdom of the tag. I know this is getting dangerously off topic, but if I may ask, where did you get your birdbath, tikiwahine?

S

I have always heard they face out to sea.

It is wise to eschew mysticism in favor of rational empiricism, leavened with an idiosyncratic aesthetic all one's own, not requiring comparison or justification.

(I know my tone here is out of line with the tone of this thread, I'm just having fun (easily amused).)

Why do all the Seagulls face the sun in the evening? Seroisly!!?

If tikis are supposed to ward off evil. And... I have tikis everywhere! Why dose my family keep coming over?!!!

He looks great when the sun hits him as it's setting. He has this squint going on like he's permanently looking into the sun. He also happens to be facing the house, so I guess I've got both bases covered.

Sweet Daddy, it was a gift from my parents, but he was bought here in Victoria. There a few places that carried them.($150-$200 I believe)

So I think I'm going with the inward facing Moai....but what about the rest?
Facing the west may make sense for other tikis though. That is if ol' Thor H. was right and Tiki led his people from So. America to their home, 'where the sun sets'.
I'm still gonna try and figure this out..........

And why are there no Seagulls in Hawaii? Seriously!!?

For crying out loud... I have tikis facing every direction, they are all over the dang place...
oh wait a minute.... they even watch me in the bedroom...
maybe I should turn them away.....
Is it appropriate that they are in the bathroom?
Or that I am drinking out of ones head?
I think that for serious discusion one might have to look to a sociologist specialising in ancient culture... and not a bunch of mixologists....

Tikis and Statues of Jesus should not face each other.

When setting up your Nativity Scene this Christmas, The Tiki should flank one end of the A-frame with the camel flanking the other. Baby Jesus should lay lengthwise in the outrigger canoe. Each angel should have a pufferfish lamp suspended above its head.

The wise man has spoken, follow his counsel, as it is wise. Once I was blind, now I see. But if Martin makes me anymore of them "whatchamacallits" I cannot guarantee my visual acuity.
