Moondog (Louis Hardin), anyone?

I really love Moondog, and it's only recently that I realized how similar a lot of his work is to the best efforts of Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman, and so on. While most of his stuff is more percussive, less melodic, and often more experimental than trad tiki music, I defy anyone to listen to Moondog tracks like "Caribea" and "Lullabye" and not get that same feeling that the best Baxter/Denny/Lyman stuff gives you.

i have to agree...there is a really rare CD that i picked up at Amoeba that has a storm in the background that sounds a LOT like exotica to me...Moondog rocks!

there isn't a bad record in the few that are published of his music but hey - he was a homeless blind guy pounding on a bucket until someone gave him a record deal!

the man could play a one stringed guitbox and get us all to pick a bale of cotton a day!
