Calling All Artists for the SELF PROPELLED Art Show

Hello to all who read this,

We are planning a show for March 11th 2006 called "Self Propelled"
the show will be up for at least 3-4 weeks.
Deadline for final pieces will be March 1st

What we are looking for are Artists to paint, pinstripe, draw... on Skateboard decks, Surfboards, Snowboards, Bicycles (beach cruisers or any kind.. even a unicycle if you have one!!), RollerBlades preferrably roller-skates, and push scooters out of old wood and produce crates with steel or clay skate wheels like some of us made when we were kids.... the basis is "Self Propelled" human powered and controlled without the aid of a mechanical power source, so if there is any other type i have left out, let me know.

We are trying to procure the Skateboard decks, Surfboards, Snowboards, Bicycles... from the manufacturers to sponsor the event to lower yours and our cost for the "Canvas" we may just buy them outright either way we or they have to re coop the costs first before the split, so keep that in mind when we price the items, we also want these items to be somewhat affordable. You can also just buy your own blank deck or an old one and sand it down.

Now the last part, after the original sells, the other possibility is to license us the rights to reproduce some of your original art in a screened graphic or laminate to adhere to the "Canvas" in a limited edition run at a significantly lower rate than the original.
Some of you have already agreed to this, and some of you are doing this instead of painting, due to time constraints,
if you already have something you have done that is cool too.

We are also going to build, borrow, or rent a half pipe and 1/4 ramps, and rails for some professional or advanced skaters to show us how it's done in the parking lot. This may also be filming this. Any suggestions or if you know of anyone who has any of these items please let us know. If we build these we are going to donate them to the Tony Hawk Foundation to help out local skateparks.

So please let me know if you want to be involved in this.

We want this to be fun and cool for everybody

Please send me a jpeg or links of works for submissions and contact info. There is a limited amount of room at the gallery, so I will not be able to accept all, but I will look at every single submission.

in response to Kirby, You can also just buy your own blank deck or get an old one and sand it down, then paint away

DT -This show sounds pretty cool. I may have a source for blank decks. I am waiting for a call back and will give you a jingle when I hear from da man.

Kirby- maybe you should outfit that buggy of yours with a some pedals and paint it!

I'd be really interested! I'd have to post from Aussie land, but it'd be worth it.

Here is the link where my bro Numa at the Aloha Island Grille picked up a bunch of blank decks:

Hope that link helps. I have been prepping one of them for painting and going to start laying down some pencil tonight. I definitely would like to submit a surfboard or a skate for consideration for the show.

Anyone know where I can find some of those big ass Monster Trucks and wheels they use for Off Road Skateboarding?? I have a sweet deck just need the parts that make it roll.

Hey Ben here are a few links to some online site that sell wheels and trucks for those crazy dirtboards:

Just google dirtboards or mountain boards and plenty of linkys will pop up.

Hey Christian,
Mr cheeky half and I are interested in making some kind of self propelled mosaic. We've been making tiki mosaics for a few years now, but we haven't shown them in galleries or anything like that. Are you interested in artists who are basically unkown? Even though we don't post very often, we've been lurking since the Yahoo days of tc, if that adds to our cred at all. Here is PeeKuBu, one of our more recent mosaics.

The rest of our mosaics are on http://www.velvetglass.com.

Cheers,

cheeky half

Hey everybody, I have seen some good stuff so far, I know there are more of you out there.
keep it comin'

I'd love to be involved.

I have some bike art prints

Plus some more in the pipe line, including frames made from bike parts.

These are inspired by actual bikes we [a group of bike building nuts] make. More about our group see
http://http:www.bikehotrod.com

This is the Tikiracer, custom frame and bars. Very much in the hotrod style. Hopping up found parts to make a super cool ride. Custom upholstered saddle.
