Er, well, I hope everyone isn't to crawled-out from the day after Thanksgiving to do it again. The wife and I will be in San Diego on December 19th and 20th and want to hit (of course) the Island Room and the Bali Hai and hope that a few (or lots) of you could join us. And anywhere else that might be a good idea for a visit. Alnshely? Well, no need to respond now: I'll wait until you've all nursed away your hangovers on the 30th. Hope to see some of y'all, -martin [ Edited by: martiki6 on 2002-11-25 17:18 ] |

OK, guys- we're on our way. Looking forward to seeing you again, PolyPop. Alnshely? Will you guys be around? I need an updated list of places to see/things to do besides the Island Room and Bali Hai. Is Thursday or Friday a better day to meet? And what's a good hotel to stay at while we're down there? Any reccomendations? Anyone? Help? -martin |

Martin- Look at Alnshely's and my posts in this thread: https://tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=1289&forum=1 Add to my list the nautical-themed bar at Tom Ham's Lighthouse on Harbor Island where Donna Cote sings standards of the old days. Be sure and think of a suitable request for her to play! For hotels I recommend the Hanalei or Humphrey's Half Moon Inn for obvious reasons. The Hanalei is a bit cheaper - you should be able to get a big room for about $100/night. http://www.hanaleihotel.com/ Another fine option is the Inn Suites Hotel where the Red Fox Room is located. You could hang out at the bar drinking manhattans while listening to the great Shirley Allan and stagger up to bed without worrying about driving. The bars at the Hanalei and Half Moon Inn are nothing special and probably close early. There is also a good dive bar called the Live Wire a block from the Red Fox Room if you feel like a beer (they have dozens on tap) and some loud music. The rates are probably less at the Inn Suites as well. And the Inn Suites is closer to the best shopping (Hillcrest area is great - check out Babette Shwartz for tiki accessories) for records, vintage clothes, etc. http://sandiego.innsuites.com/ Other hotel options that may have tikis on the grounds still are the Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley and the Catamaran Resort Hotel on Mission Bay. But these places are pretty expensive. thejab (your tiki travel agent) |

We stayed at the Half Moon Inn in september to celibrate our anniversary, got a suite on the marina side...the only way to go. I was at the Bali Hai on the 15th. Picked up another mug. The mug with a Zombie (my favorite)is 15 bucks and worth it. After that I cruised out to Lake Elsinor to check out some old DeSotos (very bad condition, not worth restoring)and a motocross race. Don't remember getting home, but that's another story. |
