Did you mention the Bluth family banana stand?

So cool! Welcome to TC!!!!

I spent many summers at Balboa in the 70s - staying at a friends beach house. We'd haunt the arcades, get salt water taffy, and swim in front of (or "race") the ferry - much to the horror of the boat operators!

For those who don't know, Dumb Angel #4 is really incredible - I highly recommend picking up a copy.

You & Dominic seem to have an interest in P.O.P. as well - here's a few links on TC you might enjoy:

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the compliments. As Dennis Wilson said in 1965: "We appreciate it all the way!"

Sorry there wasn't more Tiki in the blog, but this one was more devoted to Balboa's history in jazz, folk and rock 'n' roll. But we loved Humuhumu's comments at the bottom of the blog. Jim Fournier's TALES OF BALBOA book not only has a '30s picture of Chrisitians Hut (and a full bio of the restaurant's history), but also the Bamboo Room, another long-gone Balboa tiki bar. I recommend his book highly, not only for some cool Tiki tidbits, but also an entry on so many other people, places and things from Balboa's groovy history. Don't miss that one.

Next up on the DUMB ANGEL blog is our look at Newport Beach, with some history on THEIR Beat Generation club, Sid's Blue Beet -- home of much cool jazz, folk and bluegrass, plus other neat-o joints from Newport's history. Domenic and I are throwing a live show, with two bands, at the Blue Beet on April 2nd... more details forthcoming. That should be our hottest event yet. We'll also throw out more Balboa addendum blogs in the coming months. So many more photos and postcards, etc. that were not used in this present one. At some point we had to call it a day. This blog ended up being 19 pages when printed out.
