Last night, while reading "The Slippery Slope" - book #10 in the series, I came across this reference,"The Devil's Tongue hasn't brought us the best luck," Violet said, referring to several previous rope-related escapades. "I'm using the Sumac, a knot I invented myself. I named it after a singer I admire." I just about fell out of bed laughing - an obscure reference to the Queen of Exotica in a kid's book!
