Join us for a Tiki Tailgate before the Orlando Predators game this Friday, April 14 around 5pm. If you don't want to stay for the game, join us for a little happy hour on the way home! Look for the Mobile Tiki Bar on the North side of the TD Waterhouse Center! Hope to see all you Orlandoans there! :)

OK, spent about an hour at Joseph's liquor here in Orlando tonight. We're looking forward to this Friday and having a nice party before the Orlando Predators game. Honestly, even if you're not into the whole football thing, the tailgate is an awesome time. We'll have the tiki bar, torches, mai tai's, food, etc. It would be great to meet up with some of the other locals. After building a tiki bar in the house, and now a tiki bar to take with me, it's probably about time i get to know some folks in the tiki community. Hope to see some folks on Friday, we plan to get there mid-afternoon, with game start around 730pm.

What a great thing to sell and get tax write off on tickets, travel, and liquor.

It's all kind of funny how it worked out. We've been doing this tailgate thing for a few years, and always had the typical fold up chairs, fold up table, grill stuff. We began talking about what it would take to make our tailgate over the top... and the one thing that stuck in our minds was a tiki bar. Bringing one of my home tiki bars was sort of out of the question, although I kept trying to talk the guys into renting a u-haul and bringing a sofa, tv, generator, satellite dish, etc... nobody seemed interested though.

After coming up with some maximum dimensions when compact and when stood up, it didn't take long to come up with a way to make it portable and strong. The really cool thing about it is, we wanted to do it without having any tools or a bunch of parts when you put it up or down. We had seen some PVC based things, and it just seemed like it would be a lot of work. With the requirement to fit it into a compact car, a hyundai elantra.

Once the initial engineering/design was complete, there were few refinements and it came together pretty quickly. We spent more time on the roof than expected, but it's much better today than it was in the beginning (after an afternoon on Cocoa Beach in high winds, it proved the need to beef up the roof).

We honestly never expected to sell these from the get-go. We really just wanted to put something together we could enjoy, and could take along when we're going out for a good time. The side effect, once we did that, is folks began saying that we should sell them, it seemed like a no-brainer.

The idea of a tax write-off is very good... never even thought of that. :)
