Probably of interest to many Tiki Centralites: Skate Crazy...Amazing Graphics From The Golden Age Of Roller Skating by Lou Brooks. Brooks is a well known illustrator (you're probably already familiar with his work but may not know it), though Skate Crazy isn't his work but a collection of, yes, roller skating imagery from the past. Skate Crazy is soft cover, 144 full color pages, crammed full of really great graphics and photos from the late 30s-60s. There seems to be at least one skating rink sticker or ad from every state...Often with the address of the rinks printed on them. Great for the Urban Archaeologist. (Though most likely many of the rinks are strip malls or housing developments now.) And here's the great deal: I picked up Skate Crazy today at Half Price Books (locations in the West and Midwest) NEW for 4 bucks. It's on Amazon and you'll notice other sellers have it NEW! for even less than 4 bucks. At that price you can use the full image pages as framed art, or cut up the stickers for a neato collage project.. |
