Need help identifying Hitiki item.

Aloha all,

I found these at an antique store a few weeks ago. They say Hitiki on the back of them. I know about JJ Hite and some of the things he made for the Kahiki. But, does anyone know what these are? They are made of cement. They have a round opening at the top. But no way are they a mug. Too heavy, too rough and too wide a lip. They are about 5 inches high and almost as wide. Any clues?

candle/tealight holder?

They're REALLY cool by the way, great find!

Any chance it was intended to hold a plant? Something like an air fern (can't remember the latin name right now), or something that doesn't have much in the way of a root structure. My Mum's got a small tiki planter with an air fern attached-- of a more recent vintage than your find, though.

bromeliad?

Or possibly they could have been used as little accent pieces in landscaping? Hollowed out to make more lightweight. Just a guess. I think they're really cute.

Maybe salt & pepper shakers (black & white), but they're missing the container inserts?

Any other guesses?
