Shag With a Twist - now playing in Vegas

I just noticed that the 'Shag With a Twist' show is now playing in Las Vegas - a midnight show at the Krave Theatre in the Alladin Hotel. Tickets are currently available for Sunday - Thursday nights (no performances on Friday or Saturday) from July 16 through August 31

"I think Vegas is a really appropriate place for the show," Shag said, "because a lot of what it deals with, and a lot of what my artwork deals with, is sort of an extreme form of hedonism, and Las Vegas is sort of the ultimate hedonistic experience."

Changes to the production include the elimination of an intermission, cabaret seating for 300, a midnight curtain and a 21-and-older age requirement.

"We're just a little bit freer with some of the things that were innuendo before," Bradley said. "It still has that modest Shag essence that is of a time before the sexual revolution, but it's still very sexy."

The major difference in the Vegas production, however, comes courtesy of Shag, who redesigned the sets and created a video wall to represent set shifts with animation, still scenery and graphics.

Hot sun, hotter show and some frosty bevs! That's sounds pretty tasty to me.

I just saw "Shag with a Twist" in Las Vegas.

The show times very...some nights it's 9:00 and other nights it's midnight when the Tupperware Party starts.

There is a clever business called "Half Price Tickets" next to the Aladdin, where they sell Theater tickets for...(you guessed it)

The show is at a little club called "Krave" which is an "Alternative" bar...They don't have Sierra Nevada, or any Scotches better than Black Label...as bars go, it's about how I imagine hell. (Corona Jager and Red Bull)

Fortunately a hostess collects the theater people from the bar about 20 minutes after the show is supposed to start and seats them in a really cool little theater beside the club.

Unfortunately, the show was poorly attended this particular(Tuesday at Midnight)night so some of the gags which would have worked off a bigger crowd seemed not to float.

The show was outstanding, fun, and very impressive. (though the costumes were a bit tattered)The performers somehow stay in character thru out the whole performance which is a tall order since they are cartoons characters.

The single thing that disappointed me (besides the Bar) was there was nothing connected with the performance for sale. No program, no stickers, no CD of the sound track...This is surprising since the play is really based on artwork that's collectible.

Well, it looks like the show recently moved to the Plaza Hotel downtown. We were on our way to get tickets at the half price booth downtown, and saw the marquee announcing the show. I'm not sure when it moved, but it seems like it was in the last few weeks, as the staff at the Plaza is still very confused by it.

We did get tickets at the half price booth, and took the voucher over to the box office like it says, and they had never seen it. They finally got it worked out, and hopefully they know what to do now.

We went on a Monday night, and the crowd was very small, maybe 40 people. I spoke with one lady in line before we were seated, and she didn't actually know anything about the show and was confused about what it would be like. I don't know how they'll be able to keep people coming, but at least they do have showings Thurs-Monday now, so the weekend crowds can hopefully help.

The theatre is pretty good for the show, not too big, lots of booths that you can get with a "vip" ticket, or probably by asking nicely depending on the crowd. The tables that are set in front of the booths are setup nicely for a show, with all the seats facing forward, unlike many showrooms I've seen in Vegas.

The performers were incredible - I was really impressed with the casting and how hard they work - especially for a small crowd.

Mieko, when you saw them, did they have stuff for sale? I was really bummed not to see any ancillary items...shirts, stickers, CDs or anything there...but I wrote back the company that puts it on, and that stuff is suposed to be sold, but the people at Krave were just too lazy to put it out there.

I too was really impressed by the performers, especially the Mean Cat Lady (Kitty?) and the maid (who was quite the hotty)

They had been at the Krave for quite a while when we went also, and the fools at the Alla din Casino didn't know anything about it either.

I went at the end of August, there was a woman who acted as hostess who sold merch at the end of the show. They were out of a lot of sizes of the t-shirts and were sold out of the CDs, but they took our names and phones numbers so they could call us when more became available. She was super friendly, the "consummate hostess."

I took my Mom and her best friend, they loved it. I ordered VIP seats, we were right up front. The Casanova guy kept schmoozing up my Mom's friend, the monkey stole the shoes off of my Mom's feet and kept them for half the show. He eventually came back and placed them back on her feet. My Mom and her friend haven't stopped talking about it. They want to go again.

It was a weird vibe at Krave, SWAT seemed to be treated as the red headed step child. Apparently they alternated with another show in the same theater, so they had to set up and break down for each show. I'm glad they are now in a more exclusive theater as they deserve to be.

I highly recommend seeing this show at the Plaza. Not only is the show a hoot, the Plaza showroom is one of the few remaining old style showrooms of Vintage Vegas's glamourous past.

Also, keep you eye out for some Shag art work in the Fremont Street Experience, I have heard some rumors that there may be a featured show! I can't wait.

I don't remember seeing anything for sale, there wasn't anything outside of the showroom, although if they setup a table inside, I could have missed it on my way out.
