Souvenir vs. Standard Use Mugs? - General Tiki

Since cold paint is not that durable, were mugs (just like Mr. Bali Hai) with cold paint sold strictly as souvenirs? Also, were there ever any restaurants that had both souvenir and standard-use versions of their mugs (I presume not, since I've never seen that kind of variation before)? Commercial ceramics need to be durable to put up with constant handling and washing. So, presumabally, cold painted mugs would soon lose a lot of that color if they were used for regular use.
