For the holidays, Washington state liquor stores have trotted out Capel Pisco in the Moai decanter bottles for $28. The store I stopped at just for the hell of it today in Vancouver had five of 'em, and if you search the Washington State Liquor Control Board's website for pisco( http://www.liq.wa.gov/services/brandsearch.asp ), then click the "find stores" button, you can see if a store near you has one in stock. (Oregon doesn't have Capel Pisco in the Moai bottle.)

Having my first Pisco Sour as I write this...very tasty. Am anxious to try a couple of other drinks using pisco: the "Boomerang" from "Trader Vic's Tiki Party!" and of course, James Teitelbaum's "Aku Hall Sour" from the halls of Tiki Central ( http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=4753&forum=10&hilite=pisco%20capel ).

had to admit I didn't know much about Pisco. Here's a link others might find helpful:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisco. I like the container. I think I'll check it out! Sounds like an interesting drink and a cool container.

I picked up a bottle of that while I was in Chile last year and haven't cracked it open yet. At one point I saw a review here that said the Pisco was sub par so I've left it on my shelf at work. Can anyone verify the quality of the Pisco? I know I should just crack it open and give it a try, maybe on my lunch break tomorrow (joke).

Hey Rum Balls, let me know how the version with the Orange Bitters works out for you. I just started using that in my recipe.

And Sprokboy, I wouldn't try drinking Pisco alone, but mixed in the proper brew, it is good stuff.

$28 is pretty expensive for the Moai bottle, I pay $22.99 in Chicago, and paid $8 at Santiago, Chile duty-free (in 2000 and 2004). Maybe you'd do better ordering a few bottle on line somewhere? After you've got a few Moai bottle s stockpiled, you can get the exact same product (Capel brand Pisco) in a non-Moai bottle for $15.99 (Chicago).

Yes, $28 a bottle is a little steep...that's the problem with state-controlled liquor stores in Oregon and Washington. Ordering it on-line is cheaper, but when you add in shipping & handling, the price pops back up to the local in-store price. That's why we Northwesterners load up on liquor when we're in California and Nevada!
