I found this interesting:

In the 1990s, "I was pushing the message the world was giving me. The notion of five-star service — gloved waiters serving fish on a platter. That's what I wanted for my island."

But after 9/11, notions of luxury changed, Edmunds believes. "People reconsidered. They wanted someone barefoot in native costume serving fish on a banana leaf."

I prefer to believe that the Moai walked to the beach.
