Traveling to Tahiti...advice?

Pages: 1 4 replies

i heard it's a tourist trap for cruise ships but we're going to Bora Bora as well. any advice on where to stay near Papeete? restaurants? things to do?

Did you use the search function for "Tahiti" under Tiki Travel already?

Here's my favorite, IF you like vintage (but clean) mid-century places:

The Royal Tahitian, a little outside of Papeete. I stayed there before I took the Aranui around the Marquesas in 2002, it has beautiful grounds, and is quaint and calm compared to some of the modern mega resorts:

...and don't forget to seek out the closed, deserted Hotel Tahaara when in Tahiti (BOT p.245), and take pictures of the giant Oceanic Arts Tiki! It will be in Tiki Modern, also.

That pole... looks like it came right out of BK's shop. Beautiful.

It's really easy to go to Tahiti the hard part is to come back. I never really did.

When you get to Bora Bora, walk the island. The main road circles the island, but unless you walk, you'll miss out on the restaurants, small shops, and interesting bars and lounges. I prefer to go as local as possible. Last, get a room over the water with a glass coffee table. What an amazing thing to wake up in the morning and go swimming over the reef next to my room. My favorite food - Stingray in sea urchin sauce. My favorite drink... I can't remember, everything went down smoother there.
