The accompanying NPR.org story contains two top ten list of roadside attractions, one of which is by authors Brian and Sarah Butko. Number six on their list is the Mai-Kai. See the story here. NPR.org also mentions the Butko's latest book, Roadside Attractions: Cool Cafés, Souvenir Stands, Route 66 Relics, & Other Road Trip Fun, which I reviewed here.
