Hi Tiki carvers !

After a lot of visits on TC, I decided to post my first realisations...
I would just like to introduce myself quickly !
My name is Vincent, I live in France, just at the Swiss and German borders, and I'm addict to VW aircooled, good music, beachcruisers, custom Art in general and tiki carving of course.
Due to a lot of passions VW's, music (I play guitar in a famous  Ska band http://www.myspace.com/packageska ), webcreation ... I sculpt very slowly (around 2 tikis per year !!!). But I'll try to invest more time in this activity !!!

I started to carve at the summer 2006, after a HotRod meeting in Swiss. I was not at this event, but a couple of friends (Seb and AKUAE on TC) meet an europeen legend: HAKAI !!!, and brought me a lot of picture of his realisations. 1 week later, we bought our first log of wood !

OK ! Enough writting.
You will see below me 3 first Tiki's. I hope you'll enjoy it !

The first is about 20cm (8 inch)
His name is "BOB" because I made it when my son was born and I looked every day "Spongebob" at the TV !

The second is in a 65cm (25 inch) peace of beech
He is called "JAZ"

The last I've just finished this week is about 93cm (36 inch) in an old worn log of pine. We can see a lot of worm holes ! It was my challenge to reborn this ugly and dead peace of wood !!!
I give him the name "HAPPY", because he makes me smile !

The next in 6 months !!!
See ya'
Vinz

Really nice ! I also like the clean lines.
I have also used Beech a couple of times as it seems to be quite easy to come across localy to me here in the Uk ..
I love the sharpness of "JAZ"

Hope to see some more ..

Welcome and get comfortable. Great stuff.

Aloha coxico,

Hi,

Thank you very much for all your message !
It's nice to meet here some frenchies (Benella), some guys I have met on Rockabilly or HotRod meetings (Haikai), friends (AKAUAE) and all the other Tiki addicted !

Your messages are a good motivation to carve again and again ! Sure that 2008 will be a very productive year for me ... I hope !

I'll keep you informed about the further projects !
One of them is to reproduce the Squidward's house, the favorite Spongebob's character of my son.

We are far away the traditionnal tiki's but I think it could be a nice gift for his birthday !

See ya'

Hi,

As promised, more pictures about "Shaka", the last Tiki I carved !

  • High: 97 cm (38 inch)
  • Wood: unknown, but definitely "quince tree" ! (no idea how it's called in english)
  • Weight: heavy !!

The original shape of the log leads we to carve it in this position, one knee at the ground.
I'm not really happy with the stain I used for the finish. Looking for a best solution (ideas are welcome)

"SHAKA" with his new Friend "JAZ" !

Yes, it's a pity that I can't bring him myself to Paris at the Tiki Tribe, but he 'll be there !

Bye for now !
Vinz
