D.C. May 17-18 Hawaii Festival at the Smithsonian

Coming on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, at the Smithsonian's Museum of the American Indian, in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

A HAWAIIAN FESTIVAL

A celebration of Hawaiian culture through art, history, language, dance; including hula performances by local Halau, hands-on demonstrations, Hawaiian music and storytelling, special films, lectures, and much more.

• Plaiting and Weaving: Mahiole (helmets), fishtraps, baskets

• Hawaiian Featherwork: The Art of Feather Lei
• Kapa: Hawaiian Barkcloth Demonstration

• Children's Storytelling: Stories of Hina, Goddess of the Moon
• Hawaiian Kapa-Stamping Demonstration
• Hawaiian Hula and Music: Hâlau Ho'omau I ka Wai Ola O Hawai'i and Halau O `Aulani and The Aloha Boys
