I consider the following to be very good news - considering that Cypress Gardens was at risk of closing a couple of years ago.

No word on whether they serve alcohol in the park

Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven is launching a Saturday night Polynesian pool party that will take place at its water park this month. Steel drums, Hawaiian dances and a fire performance will be part of the event, park officials said.

Splash Island Nights – Polynesian Pool Party will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 12, 19 and 26. The event will cost $5 for park guests and $15 for people who are not in the park for the day. For an additional charge, guests can have an island style buffet that includes mojo shredded pork, yellow rice with peas, mango and pineapple in coconut milk and bread pudding.

Aaaah, the haunting sound of those Polynesian steel drums! :D That sounds just like the old days, throw some Limbo into the mix, too! :)

It's been a number of years since I was last at Cypress Gardens, before the closure and subsequent re-open. Before the closure, it was full of old school Florida tourist attraction charm (if you didn't mind the fact that you were the youngest person in the park, despite being around 40). But now, I don't know.

"Polynesian" and "Hawaiian" events in Florida are common and always dicey. Phrases to clue you in that they aren't what you're expecting... "island style","steel drums","island celebration","Big Kahuna" and the artist-who-shall-not-be-named-but-who's-initials-are-JB. :D

I've learned from experience to pretty much ignore any "tiki" events in Florida unless they originate from the Mai-Kai or from my trusted tiki friends.
