Restoring bamboo/rattan furniture - Collecting Tiki

For the most part the finish is beautiful. There is some varnish loss on the arms that is unsightly in bright light. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience refinishing rattan furniture. I fear that there is probably no fix for just the arms and I will have to remove the varnish from the whole chair and re-finish it with a clear finish. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am in the process of shopping for bark cloth to recover the cushions. Thanks!
