Is this tiki Ku or Kane and type of wood?

Thanks for the man carving these at the International Market in Waikiki. I wished I had of asked him if this is Ku or Kane....also what kind of wood this is. Can anybody help with these two questions?...thanks.

My guess is Ku...the wood appears to be hau or hibiscus wood. Known for the two tones and soft to carve.
