Mid-Coast Surfers Stomp
Who: Cocktail Preachers, Knuckle Drager and Destination Earth
Where: Phyllis Musical Inn 1800 W. Division St, Chicago 773-486-9862
When: Sunday March 30 9:00 pm
This inaugural event will lead a tidal wave of new and old surf music
lovers into reverb soaked frenzy. Surf music fans, rockabilly rebels
and tiki enthusiasts will converge for this Big Kahuna of an event.
On the bill is Madison Wisconsins Knuckle Drager. Coming off a brief
tour with Original Sinners, the current band from Exene of the
legendary punk band X and a string of dates with Link Wray, these
garage instrumentalist have release their latest CD Slam Bang
Showdown. Sporting mask and flaming keyboards these monstrous devils
have been known for their garage fuzz sound resembling that of 60s
biker soundtrack movie legend, Davie Allen. Destination Earth hails
from Indianapolis and has a sound that doesnt come from this planet.
Taking the spaced-out sound waves of Man or Astroman and combining
them with Dick Dales furious assault, Destination Earth has developed
a very unique sound. Headlining the show is Chicagos own Cocktail
Preachers. The Preachers bring a more traditional California surf
sound reflecting something closer to the Ventures or Lively Ones.
Spending the early part of summer 2002 honing their chops and
battling tasty waves on a west-coast tour, these Chicago musicians
shared the stage with the Torquays and other bands that play an
important role in todays surf music revival. Also providing some
Tiki decor for this event will be local tiki artist Dave Krys. Dave
has worked with LAs infamous Shag and recently designed the
Rock-A-Tiki nightclub in Chicago.

Sick and tired of "shock and awe"? Well then, how about a little "drink and
ahhhhh"! Yes, the perfect way to get away from those wartime blues is to
come out this Thursday (3/27) to the Bamboo Hut (479 Broadway @ Kearney) for
some great tropical drinks and the soothing theremin lounge sounds of
Project: Pimento. Two sets of music start at 9:30 pm, the booze is poured
all night, and the cover charge is a recession friendly $3. Ahhhhhh...
