This bronze is one of my favorites by my brother Michael McMillen. Just off the freeway, Sunset Park in Summerland 10 miles south of Santa Barbara. When it was first installed you could point the ship in any direction and read a historic event on the compass.

Mike is a neat guy..., and so's his wacky brother.

Nice post, Timo; this gem looks like a great destination for a future field trip...

That's pretty cool. Are you insinuating that it has corroded in place and can no longer be pointed in other directions?

No, some vandals tried to pry the ship off. It had to be bolted down. If you look at the close up shots you will see the boots from the miner that is long gone. :{

I had the name wrong. This is called The Time Compass. Five miles north in Santa Barbara is Bohnert park where there are several more of his bronzes with a historical theme thats kids can learn from. I'll post some pictures soon.
